Synchronized Skating (Synchro)

Synchronized skating is a highly technical form of team skating characterized by accuracy, intricate formations and transitions. We welcome figure skaters from all clubs to join our synchro teams!

  • Teams of 8 to 20 skaters perform side by side on the ice
  • Depending on the year, we offer a variety of teams at different skill levels for children, teens and adults

Off-Ice Classes

Off-ice training is a fitness class designed for the figure skater to optimize their potential. Off-ice training focuses on building muscle, stability and endurance, in order to optimize jumping, spinning and dancing on ice.  It is important for skaters to attend these classes to help them reach their full potential.  These are usually offered for Star 2 skaters and up.

Suggested Equipment

  • Figure skates: Found at most sports stores and online;  for more tips on choosing the right skate, visit Guidelines for Skates
  • Hard skate guards: Used to protect the blades when the skater is walking off-ice in their skates
  • Soakers/soft guards: Used when transporting skates to and from the rink
  • Skate towel: A small towel to wipe the blades after getting off the ice (important to prevent rust and damage to the blade/boot)
  • Thin socks: There are lots of options if you search online, a popular brand that you can buy locally is Thinees
  • Comfy clothes: Clothing that the skater can move in, like leggings or sweatpants;  sweaters should not have hoods.
  • Headband: When a skater first starts to skate without a helmet, a concussion headband may be a good idea; these can be found online and at local stores
  • Gloves: Non-fuzzy gloves to keep hands warm and protected
  • Equipment bag: The best ones have room for everything!

Figure Skate Sharpening

Figure skates are sharpened differently than hockey skates; very few sharpeners are able to properly sharpen figure skates. Be careful when selecting a sharpener as one improper sharpening may mean the blades are no longer useable.

The following sharpeners are recommended:

  • Eric Gilles (by appointment): call or text 506-229-3476, Second Ave Moncton
  • Joel at Maritime Source for Sports: 242 Lewisville Rd, (506) 858-8421

Adult Figure Skating

The Riverview Skating Club has a large number of adult members. Even if you have never skated or it's been many years, you are welcome to join us! We have dedicated ice time for adult figure skaters of various levels.
